About Verse

A reading company, for people who’d rather be reading.

Verse started as a Sunday letter from Jen to a few friends. Three years on, it’s a weekly read, a pre-loved book subscription, and a small community of people who care about what they read but don’t want to be full-time students of it.

From the editor

Discover brilliant books through trusted curation.

We started Verse because we were tired of book lists that read like SEO. The internet is full of "30 books to read before you turn 30." None of them sound like something we’d gift a friend.

Verse is the opposite. Every recommendation comes from a real reader — Jen. We send one letter a week, and our subscriptions go out every other month. We aim for taste, not volume.

What we believe

A modern reading brand, built around taste.

Verse helps people discover brilliant books through trusted human curation. We sit somewhere between an independent magazine, a beautifully curated bookshop, and a culturally literate friend with excellent taste.

Editorial storytelling.

A weekly Sunday letter. Real writing about real books — essays, conversations, recommendations.

Curated recommendations.

Hand-picked by a human. No algorithm, no genre quiz, no "people who liked this also liked."

Pre-loved subscriptions.

A pre-loved book on your doorstep every other month, sourced with care and wrapped in tissue.

A community of readers.

A small but growing group of people who care about what they read.

The editor

One reader, big shelves.

Every letter, every book, every parcel — chosen, written, and posted by one person.

Founder, editor, curator-in-chief

Reads pretty much everything — fiction, non-fiction, contemporary, historical, translated. Loves most multi-generational epics and slice of life fiction, long letters, and books that don’t take themselves too seriously.

Lives in London. Writes from a variety of cafes across the capital. Picks every book she sends, by hand, with a note.
